Finnish ceramic art is represented at a prestigious international ceramic exhibition in the United States.
The works of ceramic artist Olga Blokh have been selected as the only Finnish among 50 female ceramicists for the exhibition “The Personal Universal”. The curators are U.S. Assistant Professor Alex Kraft of the University of North Georgia and Anthony Merino, who is considered one of the most respected critics of ceramic art in the United States.
Due to the corona pandemic, the exhibition will be held online for the first time. Previous exhibitions were held at the American Jazz Museum in Kansas.
The artist participates in the exhibition with his two original ceramic works. Both works are based on the art cartoon Murpupit Puumalasta created by Blokh.
Another work involving various fox sculptures has been carried out using casting technology. The unique fox sculptures are hand-painted with ceramic pigments.
The second work, “The Fountain of Crumbs,” is hand-drawn and decorated with cartoon characters. The work is painted with porcelain sludge and wood ash from the sauna heater.
Exhibition is available 50 Women: A Celebration of Women’s Contribution to Ceramics – facebook page .
Audiences get to vote for their favorite by liking the exhibitors’ work. Likes will be awarded to the “People’s Choice” award.
